Location: Harald Platform, Denmark
Client: TotalEnergies
Scope: Temporary working platform installation and flare ignition cable replacement
Solution: Custom-designed aluminium walkway platform with a dedicated lifting and guideline system
Equipment: LRE single boom lifting system and rope access equipment
When the existing top platform of the flare stack on the Harald platform was rejected by TotalEnergies, access to the area became restricted, preventing personnel from safely carrying out maintenance activities. With the flare tips scheduled for replacement by helicopter, a suitable working platform was essential.
Conbit was contracted to engineer and install a temporary working platform that would provide safe access to the top of the flare stack. The solution had to make use of the intact primary structure of the existing platform to safely transfer the working loads.
Conbit designed a temporary platform consisting of lightweight aluminium walkways. The design provided a stable working surface while transferring all loads directly to the primary structure of the existing flare platform.
To bring the walkways into position, Conbit developed a dedicated lifting and guideline system using rope access techniques. An LRE single boom lifting system was installed on top of the flare platform, enabling the walkways to be transferred from the main deck and positioned at height.
This approach allowed the installation to be carried out efficiently without requiring extensive additional lifting infrastructure.

The project required a short preparation period, with only two months available to complete the engineering and production of the temporary platform.
During execution, the scope was expanded to include the replacement of the complete flare ignition cable system. This additional work required considerable flexibility from the team, particularly as activities carried out by other contractors experienced delays, putting further pressure on the available shutdown window.
Despite the demanding schedule and expanded scope, Conbit successfully completed the activities within the available shutdown window.
The team demonstrated strong commitment and flexibility, working extended days to meet the project deadline. TotalEnergies was very satisfied with the work delivered, demonstrating the value of a practical, engineered approach to challenging offshore access and installation requirements.
The project highlights Conbit's ability to create safe access solutions and execute complex work at height, even when space, access and time are limited.
